Welcome! Introduce Yourself

Hi everyone and welcome to the MinisCollector forums! Please take a second to introduce yourself. I'll go first.

My name is Chris and I'm the owner/developer/whathaveyou of MinisCollector.com. I've been collecting prepainted miniatures since WotC released Harbinger all those many years ago. I used to go by the name "Yukon Cornelius" on the old Wizards and MaxMinis boards. I'm really looking forward to getting to know you all!

Hi Chris, I'm Kato. I'm really glad you set up this site as it's a fantastic resource for those of us who love these little plastic minis.

Hey Chris and Kato. I'm Lucas.

This site is such a fantastic resource when trying to hunt down the many different peoples, creatures, and denizens for both my own and my Dad's D&D 5E campaigns.

Hey Chris, I'm Mike, an avid minis collector, but not really a D&D player. You've made a fantastic site that's a comprehensive resource for tracking my collection! I like the simple, elegant layout. The drop-down menus for browsing lines and sets within those lines is super.

Is it just me, or are you guys excited for "Deadly Foes." Maybe it's the digital renderings that make the minis look awesome compared to what they actually end up looking like...

I typically don't buy boosters, but rather just singles of the minis I think look cool. I got about 20 from Storm King's Thunder, and have been happy with them. The Hill Giant sculpt is great, but the paint job could have been better. The Night Hag may be the best medium in the set. I didn't get the new Yuan-Ti Abomination, but I'd like to hear from people who did if they like it. I have the older one (Aberrations), which I consider great, so I didn't necessarily want to get an inferior version of something I already have. However, I really love reptilian humanoids (Khumat one of my favorite minis), so I was just curios what people thought of the new guy...

Welcome Mike!

I'm really looking forward to Deadly Foes. The objects this time around are really interesting and cool (especially the Hellgate. I can't wait to get it on my table.)

Hello:
I'm John, who goes by arbados! I really should go by Magister Arbados as that's where the name is originated from in my campaign. He is the greatest wizard within my game world of Krinthius and rules a floating city called Gateway! Magister is a title of recognition and supremacy within my game world of Krinthius! With that being said I've been DM'ing for over 30 years, now being in my late 40's! I've been role playing non-stop for those same 30 years and have never stopped having a group of 5-6 players non-stop! What a blessing! In the course of those 30 years we've missed about 5 games playing 1x a week. I'm a very dedicated DM making sure my Tuesday gaming night is always available! The game is an enjoyable part of my life along with my wife and kids! I play a very, very detailed home-brewed world that has hundreds of written pages of information. I have created amazing maps for all my cities and have thousands of minis (too many to use in my lifetime, but its always good to have them just in case). I'll share whatever I have as enhancing another gamer to make their game better is always great!

Welcome, Anthony! I'm a lousy painter myself, which is what brought me to PPMs in the first place.

Hey Anthony:
Welcome. It takes time to become good at painting! Just keep trying and in the end I'm sure you will do fine. I'm no expert, but can certainly amaze the players at my table with my terrain painting which all came from trying it out!! Good luck!

I suppose it's time for the grumpy badger to introduce himself...

"Know, O King, that between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis, and the rise of the Apple Macintosh, there was an age undreamed of... Let me tell you of the days of No Adventure!"

Back in '77 (before the coming of Star Wars!), there was a kids' show called Wonderama. One day, they had on a couple guests who I can only assume were Gygax & Arneson...and they were talking about their new game...and they had the most marvelous miniature monsters! (I recall a hydra, particularly.)

I recall thinking, "I want those toys!"

And the rest was history...!

Well, ok, it took a few years for me to get into the game, and I then collected & painted metal miniatures, most of which were then stolen, breaking my spirit for minis for many years, then a friend knew they were fighting hobgoblins in the next session, so he ignored my "no miniatures" command & brought some over, rekindling my love of the little critters (curse him!), but I vowed "No Metal, Never Again!" cuz I'd broken my back lugging the dang things around in the past, so I started picking up the prepainted plastics shortly before WotC discontinued them (grr!), but I only bought ones that could stand in for multiple kinds of foes, but that didn't last!... And here we are! ;)

Hey Brontoceratops, welcome and I enjoyed the history! For me I was young and was just diagnosed with juvenile diabetes when I was 11! Mom and dad thought it was best to send me to a summer diabetes camp called camp NYDA (New York Diabetes Association). Got there and hated it. As a matter of fact it was crazy as the kids there did everything that you shouldn't, but that is another story and I joke with my mom about it to this day. Anyways the camp councelor one day pulled out the old red or blue box of D & D and had us play the game. Loved it! Came back from camp, convinced my mom to buy it for me, introduced it to my friends on the block and away we went playing it on my stoop in Brooklyn, NY! I DM'd of course and still am!

Hi, Chris and gang.. (btw - LOVE the Godzilla avatar.. ). I was caught hook, line and sinker by the D&D bug in early 1977 and DM'd for my Jr. High/High School/College buds until my Naval enlistment. Time passed, got married, had a kid, moved 3 times.. Now work in IT, 12 hour night shifts. 2 weeks ago, one of the new college hires was talking about D&D, I was bored, so I looked it up to see what was going on 30 years later... read all about the rave reviews for 5e and jumped right back in - both with studying up on the books (still working on that - lotta changes since AD&D circa 1979!) and catching up on the minis.. used to have tons of the Ral Partha and such, painted them all.. lost those in a divorce.. amazed that all the stuff is being done now - looks kinda like the D&D boom of the late 70's all over again with the way it's getting so popular again. Looking forward logging in this mass of minis I went though today (and hoping I find somebody ineterested enough to trade me something usable for those idiotic 'invisible' characters.. If I wanted to paint a figure, I'd have bought one.. Oh well..

just some random cute little capuchin monkey saw where his assclown owner put some stupid glasses on him and used his thumb to push his head up... don't like the chain around the poor little fella's neck, though. Obviously not a professional handler.

Hi everyone. I came across this site looking for Crown of Fangs minis and thought I'd say hello. So...hello!

I'm kind of new to buying minis. Any tips to share?

Welcome, BrundleflyTNT!

I guess it depends whether you want to collect new minis or older ones, and if you're a completist (like me) who has to get at least one of everything in a set. If you want all of the newer figs, I recommend buying by the case. You can usually get them at a discount online. If you're just looking for a few specifics, eBay is the way to go (at least in my experience).

Good luck and happy collecting!

I agree that you can find almost any given figure on ebay, although some sellers often have ridiculous ideas about what's a fair price.

Ebay can be very economical, though, if you purchase large lots. A good choice when you want to begin a collection from scratch.

auggiesgamestore.com often has good prices on singles when new sets come out, but they don't tend to restock after that. Auggie's seems to be the official distributor for the Dungeon Crawler minis, too. coolstuffinc.com & miniaturemarket.com have large stocks of singles, and occasionally you'll find a decent price.

Thanks! I took a look at Auggue's Game Store, and it looks like a good place to buy. Thanks for the tip!

Hello all! I starting playing D&D way back when (and yes, I too remember Wonderama Grumpy Badger!) and have been DMing almost as long. The Pre-painted plastic minis WoTC released with eh Harbinger set was like a dream come true! (I too cannot paint worth a lick and have no time to learn!). I have been collecting every since, though it has slowed down in recent years - saturation and all. I too remember the old Greyhaze run minis boards where we would speculate endlessly about upcoming DDM sets. Glad to have found a new community of collectors! I am working on figuring out the *MyCollection* part of this site....Cheers all!

Welcome, harneloot! I think I recognize your nickname from back in the day (I used to post as Yukon Cornelius in the before times, in the long, long ago.) Let me know if you run into any questions.

Hi. I'm Shad. Starting playing D&D back in 3.5e in games some friends ran. Didnt play again for many many years. Then, a couple years ago, got invited into a 5e game and that brought me back into the fold. Now I play weekly at a local game shop and a few month back made the plunge into DMing for my first group of players. Iv'e always been a huge collector of things I'm passionate about. From Doctor Who memorabilia to signed first edition books, I always go a bit insane on building collections and now minis are taking over. Despite starting a few short months ago, I've already amassed a sizable collection that Ive only begun to get entered onto this site. Super excited that I found it and am blown away by how everything is tagged and laid out for easy searches.

If I could make one request, please try to add a print-friendly feature where one can easily print out our collection/wish lists.

Greetings, Shad! Welcome to the site, and to the hobby. It sounds like we have the same predisposition for collecting, and I'm glad to hear you're finding the site helpful.

Printable lists have been on my radar for a while now. Over the next couple months (at least) my focus is on improving the usability of the site, and I'm hoping that I'll be able to make printable (and maybe even sharable) lists a part of that.

Hello!
I'm a miniatures collector by Pasadena, California. I am a big fan of the D&D, Pathfinder, Attack Wing, and also some custom made/ converted figures from other games.

I have a bunch of the D&D Attack Wing promos - I was wondering if these can be included in the list? Thanks!

Hey stormbringer. Do you have a list of the promos? If you can send them to me via the contact form, I'll add them in.

Thanks!

Hello?
* tap-tap * Is this thing on?
My name is Rob and I've been playing D&D and collecting figures since the 70's. I still have some Ral Partha land Grenadier (sp) figures still in op.
My twin sons (15) just discovered the wonderful world of tabletop miniatures and D&D 5e. I'm feeding their desire with a fire hose.
About me: disabled/retired combat vet. Live waaaay back in the woods with my sons, cats and dog. We live a simple life and love playing D&D when not swimming.

I really hope this site isn't dead. I just found it!
